What is OpenCloud?

OpenCloud is an open-source platform for file sharing, synchronisation and collaboration, with a focus on data protection, scalability and modern cloud-native architecture.

Is there a free version?

Yes, the Community Edition of OpenCloud is open source and can be run yourself free of charge.

What is the difference between the Community and commercial plans?

In particular, the commercial plans provide access to production releases, long-term support (LTS) releases, early access to security patches, and support services via partners.

Can I upgrade to a higher plan later?

Yes, you can upgrade between plans at any time.

Is there a SaaS version?

OpenCloud is primarily designed for self-hosting and sovereign cloud deployments. Managed hosting services are provided through partners.

Licensing & Subscriptions

Are charges calculated per user?

In the Basic, Professional and Premium plans, charges are calculated per user. With the β€˜High Performance Computing’ add-on, charges are calculated based on storage capacity, as this service is typically accessed by only a small number of users. Please contact us and we will find a solution that suits your needs.

Do I need a subscription for production use?

No. The Community Edition can be used in production. However, commercial plans offer additional stability, security and compliance features.

What does access to Production Releases include?

Production Releases contain versions that have been tested and approved for production use, with stable upgrade paths.

What are LTS releases?

Long-Term Support releases receive security and maintenance updates over an extended period. They require less maintenance and are optimised to minimise the risk associated with updates during live operation.

What support does the Community Edition offer?

The Community Edition and the Basic plan include community support via public channels.

Is Professional Support included in the Basic Plan?

No. The Basic Plan does not include Professional Support.

Are there any guaranteed response times?

Guaranteed response times are ensured through SLAs in the Professional and Premium plans.

Does OpenCloud support migrations?

Yes. Support for migrations and enterprise onboarding can be provided as part of our commercial support packages. Please get in touch and we will find a solution that suits your needs.

Security & Compliance

Does OpenCloud support GDPR requirements?

Yes. OpenCloud has been designed for privacy-friendly and sovereign deployments and supports GDPR-related requirements.

Does OpenCloud support single sign-on?

Yes. OpenCloud supports OAuth2, OpenID Connect and other SSO integrations.

What is an SBOM?

A Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) documents the components and dependencies contained within a system for security and compliance purposes. For example, an SBOM helps to quickly identify whether a system is affected by a critical vulnerability in an open-source library it uses, and which versions need to be updated.

Will I receive security updates before they are released?

Yes. The Professional and Premium plans include early access to security patches – this means you won’t find out about security vulnerabilities from the press, but will be notified in advance.

Does OpenCloud support password policies?

Yes. Advanced password policies are available in the Standard and Premium tiers.

Can OpenCloud be run on Kubernetes?

Yes. OpenCloud supports Kubernetes deployments and charts in the Professional and Premium tiers.

Does OpenCloud support high availability?

Yes. High-availability deployments are supported in the Professional and Premium tiers.

Which storage solutions are supported?

OpenCloud supports local storage as well as S3-compatible object storage systems. The HPC Add-On adds support for Ceph, GPFS and Leil FS.

Does OpenCloud require a relational database?

No. OpenCloud has been designed to operate without a traditional relational database.

Can OpenCloud be operated in an air-gapped environment?

Depending on the deployment scenario, isolated and restricted network environments are possible.

Premium & OEM

Does OpenCloud support multi-tenancy?

Yes. Multi-tenancy is available on the Premium plan.

Can OpenCloud be operated under our own branding?

Yes, the logo can be changed on the Premium plan.

Can we influence the product roadmap?

Yes. Premium customers have the opportunity to discuss requirements and priorities directly with the product team.

Migration & Compatibility

Does OpenCloud support WebDAV?

Yes. OpenCloud offers full WebDAV support.

Are there any integrations with Microsoft 365?

No. OpenCloud does not currently support any Microsoft integrations.

Can existing data be migrated?

Yes. Migrations from existing storage and collaboration systems are generally possible. Please get in touch and we will find a solution that suits your needs.

Does OpenCloud support mobile devices?

Yes. OpenCloud offers clients and apps for desktop, iOS and Android.
