The nucleus of the OpenCloud community is the OpenCloud GmbH team. - We invite all open source enthusiasts to join us in building a large, vital community for digital sovereignty that works together on the principles of open source collaboration.
Openness
OpenCloud is open source software. This means that you can download and use the source code free of charge and without obligation. We welcome and encourage any kind of participation in the work on OpenCloud in the spirit of open source collaboration.
OpenCloud GmbH also offers paid builds of OpenCloud for use in environments where support, professional services and other services are required.
Who are we?
OpenCloud GmbH was founded under the umbrella of the Heinlein Group, which has been on the market for over 30 years. Many of the team's developers have been familiar with the project code for many years and continue to run it under OpenCloud.
The combination of the Heinlein Group's many years of experience in the open source business and the unwavering enthusiasm of the developers, most of whom have many years of open source experience, provides the perfect breeding ground for an active project. And we cordially invite everyone to join us!
The foundation
The basis of the project is a fork of the open source software "ownCloud Infinite Scale" (OCIS), whose components were co-developed by developers from the science organisation CERN and other active participants. OpenCloud is now being further developed with new ideas and in the spirit of a reliable open source community and published under the Apache 2.0 and AGPL-3.0 licences.
We are grateful for the strong foundation we are building on in terms of the reusability of code under free licences.
Published code
OpenCloud is committed to openness and transparency. The code of the OpenCloud components is publicly accessible on Github and can be viewed and reviewed at any time.

Want to join in?
We actively encourage community participation and welcome any kind of contributions such as bug reports, suggestions for improvements, testing, deployments, code, translations, design and theming and much more.
In order to efficiently integrate these contributions into our development processes, we are building a structured process on Github. In the initial phase, we ask for understanding and close collaboration as we shape this path together.

Develop your own!
From the outset, it will be possible to adapt your own applications to OpenCloud or develop something completely new on the basis of OpenCloud. OpenCloud is available as a powerful platform for integrating web applications or as a universal storage layer for unstructured data.
