Berlin, 27. March 2025 - Following the successful release of the first OpenCloud versionin February, is now launching its commercial offering with various enterprise service packages. The Public sector, companies and the research and science sector can now benefit from professional support and service level packages that ensure secure, stable and efficient operation of the new solution for file management, file sharing and collaboration.
Service packages for professional use
OpenCloud can be operated both in the company's own data center and via selected partners. With the release of version 2.0.0, customers receive long-term support and comprehensive services directly from the producer. The new service packages offer long-term software support, fast security updates, checks when rolling out updates, high-availability solutions and personal support.
New feature for easy backup of large amounts of data
With version 2.0.0, OpenCloud also sets a new benchmark in the field of Enterprise File Sync and Share: The new "File Native Backup" ensures drastically reduced complexity in scaling, operation and maintenance. Since OpenCloud does not require a database to store the metadata, significantly reduces operating costs and also the risk of failure and malfunctions. Nevertheless, OpenCloud offers a powerful full-text search and high scalability. With the new File Native Backup, backing up any amount of data has never been easier: Unlike database-based solutions, with OpenCloud, a simple backup of the file system using snapshot or file copy is sufficient for a fully consistent backup. For administrators, this means significant time savings, easier backup and restore of data and greater reliability.
"Our goal is to offer a secure, reliable and uncomplicated solution to anyone who values data sovereignty", says Tobias Baader, Product Manager of OpenCloud. "With our 'File Native Backup' we are setting a new standard for stability, efficiency and ease of use."
The mission, to further develop Open Source technologies and to offer a future-proof alternative to proprietary solutions, is consistently pursued by the OpenCloud team. "The latest geopolitical developments, particularly in the USA, highlight the urgency of digital sovereignty in Europe.", explains Peer Heinlein, CEOand founder of OpenCloud. "Companies and public authoritiesare desperately looking for trustworthy, European software solutions to restore their independence. The interest in OpenCloud is therefore enormous - because with our offering we provide a powerful open source software, that addresses precisely this need while ensuring the highest security standards."
Outlook: Migration tools available from Q2/2025
Nothing stands in the way of a switch: In the second quarter of 2025, OpenCloud will provide tools to make migrating to the platform as easy as possible. Companies and organizations that currently still rely on older php-based solutions such as Nextcloud or ownCloud 10, will be able to migrate their data and structures just as easily as customers of other solutions. The support team at OpenCloud will provide comprehensive advice and technical support to ensure a smooth migration.
