OpenCloud at FrOSCon 2026

The 21st FrOSCon will take place on 15 and 16 August 2026 at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences in Sankt Augustin. The Free and Open Source Software Conference brings together developers, companies, communities and those interested in open source. The focus is on free software, open technologies and practical discussions relating to development and operation.

FrOSCon 2026

OpenCloud will once again be represented at FrOSCon this year. In their talk, Tobias Baader and Jannik Stehle will provide a practical introduction to self-hosting with OpenCloud.

Talk: Moving away from Dropbox & Co.: Getting Started with OpenCloud Self-Hosting

Anyone who wants to store, share and collaborate on files independently of proprietary services such as Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive can run their own cloud instance. But who is self-hosting suitable for? What are the requirements, and what’s important when getting started?

In their talk, Tobias Baader and Jannik Stehle will demonstrate how OpenCloud works and how you can set up your own instance quickly using Docker or Podman. They will cover the required hardware, setting up user accounts and file sharing, as well as collaborating on files.

The pros and cons of self-hosting, typical pitfalls and the limitations of a self-operated solution will also be discussed. The talk is aimed in particular at beginners who wish to gain a clear and practical overview of how to run their own private cloud.

15 August 2026 | 10:00–11:00 | HS 4
