Under the theme ‘Open Source in Practice – Innovative, Compliant, Economical,’ experts, companies and the open source community will gather in Erfurt on 18 September to discuss strategies for the sustainable use of open source: How can open source technologies be used in a legally compliant and economically viable manner? Which organisational models have proven successful? And where do existing approaches reach their limits?
The Bitkom Forum Open Source 2025 provides a space to discuss precisely these questions using practical examples and experience.
OpenCloud will also be represented with a deep dive presentation – introduced by Peer Heinlein, CEO and founder of the Heinlein Group and OpenCloud.
A community has to do what a community has to do!
What do you do when a proprietary product is suddenly discontinued or sold, and your room for manoeuvre shrinks as a result? Migrations usually become unavoidable, costs arise and familiar structures are shaken up.
Open source opens up other avenues here: open source allows you to remain independent – with your own team or new partners, with new energy or familiar processes.
In his presentation, Peer Heinlein shows how theory meets practice – with a real-life experience report from a fork: a conscious decision for freedom, responsibility and continuity.
Conference Room North | 12:10–12:30 p.m.
Speaker: Peer Heinlein, CEO and founder of the Heinlein Group and OpenCloud
We look forward to exchanging ideas with everyone who not only uses open source, but also helps shape it – strategically, collaboratively and with an eye to the future.
