The OpenCloud Production Release enhances digital collaboration with structured, Markdown-based content

OpenCloud enables Markdown-based content to be used directly within the web interface, for notes, documentation and knowledge management.

Berlin, 25 June 2026 – OpenCloud, the open-source platform for file management, file sharing and digital collaboration, is introducing a new editor component with its latest production release. It enables users to work with continuously editable, structured content, such as notes, documentation, knowledge management or content that can be linked, expanded and integrated into digital workflows.

New editor component for Markdown-based collaboration

The new component is based on Tiptap and makes Markdown, as an open, text-based format, directly usable within the OpenCloud web interface. This ensures that content remains readable, transferable and usable across different systems.

Users can create, edit and structure content whilst writing, without needing to know the Markdown syntax in detail. Formatting elements such as headings, lists, tables, tasks, quotations or code blocks can be inserted directly whilst writing.

OpenCloud thus complements existing file and office work with a form of collaboration geared towards open, structured text content.

“Many digital work processes are based on traditional document structures. Markdown is a useful format for open, structured content, but until now it has not been easily accessible to everyone. With the new editor component, we are making this way of working easier to use in OpenCloud, for example for collaborative work, knowledge management and AI-supported workflows,” explains Tobias Baader, Product Manager at OpenCloud.

Collabora Online remains an integral part of OpenCloud and is still available for Office documents.

Further improvements to usability

In addition to the new editor component, the release includes further changes to the web interface. Favourites help users find important files more quickly and are centrally available thanks to server-side storage. The revamped breadcrumb navigation helps users find their way around deeper folder structures. Users can use the click path to jump directly back to previously visited folders.

The Preview app has also been optimised for large image collections: the new photo roll navigation makes it easier to switch between images, whilst optimised loading processes ensure a smoother user experience. In the Files app, a new floating action button improves the creation and upload of files.
