The CS3 Conference 2026 in Oslo from 17 to 19 March brought together the international CS3 community around cloud storage, sync & share and digital collaboration. The focus was on solutions and practical experience for research, education and science-related infrastructures.
OpenCloud was represented in the programme several times: with technical contributions from our team and with experience reports from the community. The recordings of the English presentations are now available and provide insights into current developments.
Klaas Freitag: "Desktop Client Innovations"
Klaas Freitag, CTO at OpenCloud, presented new aspects of the OpenCloud and desktop client architecture. The focus was on central client/server APIs, architectural decisions for reliable synchronisation in large environments and current developments relating to the Virtual File System, which improves the user experience in the interaction between local file storage and cloud storage.

Dr. Jörn Dreyer: "Storage aspects consumed by OpenCloud"
Dr. Jörn Dreyer gave a technical insight into the storage aspects of OpenCloud. OpenCloud aims to get by without a relational database. This shifts central functions more towards storage integration, including the intensive use of Extended File Attributes. The presentation shows which storage functions OpenCloud uses, which integrations are supported and which topics are currently being researched further.

Vasily Bunakov: "OpenCloud instance for PSDI"
PSDI, the Physical Sciences Data Infrastructure, also presented experiences with OpenCloud. The contribution shows how OpenCloud is being tested in an OpenStack environment and which use cases are to be further developed by partners.
