What do you do when proprietary software disappears and you are suddenly forced to change? How can the community act in a self-determined way at such times? And what does this mean in practice?
The lecture by Peer Heinlein, CEO and founder of OpenCloud, at the Chemnitzer Linux-Tage 2025 is now available as a → recording (german)!
Titled "A Community has to do, what a Community has to do!", Peer Heinlein shows in his presentation how open source is not only technologically but also strategically relevant - especially when commercial providers discontinue or sell products.
Instead of being dependent on external decisions, open source offers the opportunity to take responsibility yourself: Further develop, fork, reorganise. What sounds obvious in theory is often a real feat of strength in practice.
This presentation tells of a very recent case: of software that was worth standing up for. About a team that was determined to continue working freely. And about what happens when theory meets practice - and what headwinds you encounter if you just do it.
